Background/IRC Summary: The IRC has a rich history of assisting refugees to apply for U.S. resettlement, from its founding in 1933 to help vulnerable individuals escape Nazi-occupied Europe, to pioneering the Joint Voluntary Agency which assisted Indochinese refugees for 22 years, to operations in Croatia, Sierra Leone and Sudan. Over the years, IRC has processed some half million refugees worldwide for U.S. resettlement.
Based in Bangkok with three field offices in Thailand and Malaysia, the IRC Resettlement Support Center (IRC-RSC) assists persons throughout East Asia seeking permanent resettlement in the United States. RSC prepares refugee applications for the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, provides information to resettlement agencies about arriving refugees and offers cultural orientation training to those refugees bound for the U.S
Job Overview/Summary: The Caseworker - Special Caseloads is responsible for performing timely, high-quality casework on specific caseloads in the East Asian Region. The majority of the position's work will be conducted in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand but may include other regional locations as needed. The position will require regular travel to these locations to conduct interviews and other tasks as assigned. The Caseworker will be required to interview special Caseloads which may include expedite and sensitive cases, as well as unaccompanied/separated minors. Other caseloads of concern may also be assigned.
Major Responsibilities:
- Perform timely, thorough casework of refugee applications for United States resettlement
- Conduct timely casework follow-up to resolve issues and move cases forward in the USRAP pipeline
- Assist with performing QC of cases as assigned
- Conduct resettlement related interviews and other casework follow up at East Asia regional locations as required
- Produce regular progress reports to supervisors/ management
- Inform immediate supervisor of any urgent protection issues or updated medical conditions of applicants and their families
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Job Requirements:
Education:
- University or college degree, or equivalent of 1 to 2 years of relevant professional experience preferred
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant resettlement processing experience is advantageous
- Previous working experiences/direct or indirect engagement with NGOs and any other humanitarian exposure is highly desired
- Previous exposure in a multi-cultural environment is advantageous
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
- High level of professionalism
- Both team and detail oriented and able to think and work independently
- Flexible and able to work in fast-paced, multi-cultural environment
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, including good communication skills with pleasant demeanor
- Good typing skill with an average of 40 - 50 words per minute
- Able to multitask, work effectively under pressure and manage repetitive work
Computer and Language Skills:
- Proficient in PC use, Microsoft Office, email and Internet required. Familiarity with WRAPS database is preferred, but not required.
- Fluency in both written and spoken English is required. Bilingual ability in Arabic, Somali or Farsi strongly preferred.

- Ability and willingness to travel regularly within the East Asia region, possibly with short deployment notice. A valid passport and the ability to acquire US and other visas, as necessary, is a requirement.
Working Environment: The available positions are expected to be based at the RSC offices in Bangkok and/or Kuala Lumpur, but this is subject to change (within the region) based on changing programming needs and/or at the request of the donor. While primarily operating in a standard office work environment, the position does require domestic and international travel throughout the region which may include remote work sites or refugee camps.
