BACKGROUND

The IRC is on the ground in some 40 countries, providing emergency relief, resettling refugees and rebuilding lives in the wake of disaster. Through 26 regional offices in cities across the United States, the IRC also helps refugees resettle in the US and become self-sufficient.

IRC-UK
Our European headquarters, IRC-UK, was established in London in 1997 to support the organisation’s global activities and particularly to diversify its donor base and to better advocate with European policy-makers on behalf of the people we serve. Since its establishment IRC UK has grown rapidly and is now acknowledged for its high quality project management, technical expertise and, increasingly, our policy and advocacy work. The IRC also has offices in Brussels, Germany and Geneva, as well as regional programme offices in Greece and Serbia.
IRC-UK comprises approximately 90 staff across five departments.
The organization is launching a partnership with a high-profile, consumer-facing brand (henceforth the Partner).The partnership sits within the corporate partnerships function of the philanthropy and partnerships team, with key connections to the European Communications and Policy & Advocacy teams.
THE PARTNERSHIP
The International Rescue Committee and the Partner are to embark on an exciting campaign targeting the proposed EU refugee resettlement framework. Commencing in June 2017, the campaign will deliver on a range of engagement, advocacy and communications objectives. The campaign will roll out in the UK, Germany, Sweden and one or two other European countries to be confirmed.
There are three main elements to the campaign:
- An impactful public campaign with the aim of ensuring the EU agrees upon a comprehensive and ambitious new refugee Resettlement Framework, which would provide a safe and legal routes to protection in Europe for vulnerable refugees;
- Events targeted to key stakeholders such as journalists, politicians, other NGOs, potentially business leaders and the general public to engage in the campaign, as well as other campaigns and PR activity in the relevant countries;
- Engaging wider movement builders, NGOs and influencers to ensure the campaign goes further and deeper in each target country.
The Purpose of the Role
In consultation with key stakeholders within IRC and the Partner, the role will deliver on the campaign objectives set in the activity delivery plan of the partnership at a European level and working closely with the Partner’s social mission managers in country to drive action at a country level which drives additional depth to the campaign. This position will be the key point of contact for the IRC relationship with the Partner.
Scope and Authority
Authority:
This position is responsible for successfully delivering the activity streams of the IRC-Partner campaign, so that each objective is achieved within the agreed 6 month time-period. With support from the Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships, this role will be also be responsible for ensuring the campaign and its activities are fully compliant with data protection legislation.

This position will manage the partnership budget.

- KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
To provide campaign management by: (40%)
Acting as the main point of contact between the IRC and the Partner to ensure that all key stakeholders are informed and have a clear understand of the progress of the campaign and forthcoming activities.
Establishing and managing the internal project plan and external campaign calendar, including chairing and capturing actions for the weekly campaign meetings and holding each member to account on delivering their agreed activities.
Liaison between communications teams and policy and advocacy teams to ensure that external communications reflect the current policy priorities.
Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities to gain greater attention, influence and traction for the campaign.
With support from the Partner’s social mission managers based in priority countries, ensure events and activations are relevant, timely and impactful.
Monitoring campaign performance against metrics for success and communicating the results to the working group on a regular basis, flagging any areas where the campaign needs extra attention to meet its objectives.
Organising events, including PR events in conjunction with the Communication team, to build the understanding among IRC-The Partner network of supporters about the issues IRC works on.
To execute the advocacy and outreach activity streams across Europe by: (30%)
Working with the policy and advocacy team to identify key moments to influence, advise on and implement campaign tactics.
Developing effective relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders, especially movement builders and other NGOs in the UK, Germany and Sweden, to achieve established goals and objectives for new and existing Social Mission campaigns within the Partner’s network.
Converting relationships with movement builders into tangible, community driven campaigns that relate to our strategic focus areas.To implement the IRC- Partner digital campaign (20%)
Work in conjunction with IRC and the Partner’s digital and communications leads to meet, and ideally exceed, the target number of actions for the campaign.
Support the generation of sustained, high quality digital content to engage a wide audience for the duration of the campaign. This will include blog writing and other content development.
Maximise the brand potential of both organisations at all times.
Be responsive to external affairs and flex the content plans accordingly in order to make best use of evolving media and public interest.To execute date management and compliance policies by: (10%)
Using the IRC data management programme Raiser’s Edge to track and record engagement in compliance with IRC procedures and IRC data protection legislation.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
Experience and skills:
Experience of project managing and executing political and activism campaigns engaging a range of audiences with multiple objectives.
Demonstrable track record raising awareness of campaign messaging within a target audience using a wide range of digital channels.
Experience of working on advocacy/ political issues, and of successfully influencing targets.
Demonstrable experience of taking complex information and breaking it down in to simple communications and actions for an external audience.
Ability to meet deadlines, and influence others to meet deadlines, when working under pressure on a number of activity streams simultaneously.
Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with colleagues and at all levels, internally and externally.
Ability to think creatively and champion new working practices across all stakeholders.
