The IRC Finance department seeks to achieve excellence in financial management by providing accurate and timely financial information to IRC management and programs and by adhering to established financial practices and accounting principles. The HQ Finance Team does this by supporting and training staff, by implementing and monitoring the implementation of IRC and donor policies and procedures, and by gathering the necessary financial information in preparation of the organizations' financial statements.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Director of Financial Planning & Analysis will take overall responsibility for compiling and monitoring IRC's $700+ million budget and for other financial analysis and management reporting needed to manage efficiently the organization's operations worldwide. The Director, Financial Planning & Analysis will oversee the implementation of the organization's annual budgeting processes. The position reports to the CFO, and manages an overall staff of 4 employees.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Budget activity
- Work closely with the CFO to develop the annual budget for the organization and prepare a re-forecast of the annual budget at least twice a year;
- Provide day-to-day leadership of budgeting and reforecasting processes with support from CFO and Deputy CFO;
- Update the budget calendar, guidelines and tools for use by program and support units in the annual budget and reforecast cycles for current year requirements;
- Present the organization's budget to IRC's Leadership Board and Finance Committee as requested;
- Reconcile to and consolidate department budgets in the overall operating budget;
- In conjunction with the Deputy CFO, HR, Global Supply Chain and other units, implement control processes to protect the organization from making financial and other commitments in excess of its budgeted resources.
Planning & Analysis
- Develop a rolling, multi-year financial model and plan;
- Manage the financial forecasting, analytics and other decision support processes and tools to support IRC leadership and the leadership of various operating units;
- Prepare financial analysis of program expenses and other cost allocation calculations as needed;
- Provide CFO and IRC leaders with additional financial planning analysis as requested
Reporting
- Oversee the production and delivery of monthly budget vs. actual reports and other reports as needed to monitor activity (revenue and expenses) against budget for IRC overall and HQ departments;
- Escalate identified under/over spending and oversee reviews with HQ budget holders
- Prepare the fringe benefit rate calculation annually.
Other
- Lead and manage a team of four dedicated financial planning and analysis professionals;
- Work with the CFO to assess the financial training needs relating to budget procedures and forecasting within the organization and provide the necessary training of international and domestic staff;
- Participate as needed in special projects;
- Other duties as assigned by the CFO.
KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Based at IRC Headquarters in New York, the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis will report to the CFO, and will work closely with the members of the finance department including the Deputy CFO, the Director International Finance and the Regional Controllers. The director will also work with Global Philanthropy & Partnerships, International Programs, US Programs, Policy & Practice, Operations and IRC's Leadership Board.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Educational Requirements
- Bachelors Degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance
- MBA or MA in Accounting or Finance highly desirable
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 7 years progressive managerial experience in the financial management of an organization
- Minimum 5 years' experience in developing, preparing and reporting on annual budgets, preferably at a non-profit

- Demonstrated leadership skills: ability to successfully lead and guide an international organization on budget issues
- Strong analytical skills: significant experience compiling, analyzing and modelling financial information to yield actionable financial insights to support management decision making

- The position will work in the New York City Headquarters location and is expected to be on-site
