Background/IRC Summary: The International Rescue Committee helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. IRC teams provide health care, infrastructure, learning and economic support to people in 40 countries, with special programs designed for women and children. Every year, the IRC resettles thousands of refugees in 26 U.S. cities.

The Global Communications team, a part of the IRC's Policy & Practice department alongside the Technical Units and Advocacy, oversees all external and internal strategic communications, from traditional media and social media to the website and internal communications.

Job Overview/Summary: The Associate, Global Communications plays a key role in creating, updating and maintaining materials and metrics for the Global Communications team, including media lists and outreach. Reporting to the Director of Internal Communications, the Associate, Global Communications also supports the delivery of tactics that help connect, inform and inspire the IRC's global staff.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Create, update and maintain materials that summarize and measure the team's quarterly and fiscal year results
  • Prepare and distribute weekly updates via emails from Global Communications
  • Under manager's guidance, work with other teammates to support traditional and social media projects that generate media coverage and engagement for the IRC's humanitarian work both domestically and around the world
  • With the guidance of the Director of Internal Communications, partner with colleagues including HR, IT, Brand, US and International Programs, Strategy Unit and the President's Office to support internal communication routines that build understanding of organizational goals and priorities, foster engagement among employees, and drive a tight alignment between headquarters and the field
  • Gather and incorporate employee feedback, best practice research and other external learning to build effective communication plans and enhance results

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Communications, English or Related Field

Work Experience: 2-3 years, or relevant internships

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies: Strong writing skills; Creativity and flexibility

Language Skills: French or Arabic preferred

Certificates or Licenses: n/a

Working Environment: Standard office work environment
