BACKGROUND:
The IRC is one of the leading providers of high-quality services for refugees resettling to the United States. The mission of the IRC's US Programs (USP) Department is to create opportunities for refugees to survive and thrive in America. In 26 cities across the country, USP field offices implement programs focused on five strategic outcomes: Safety, Health, Education, Economic Wellbeing, and Power. The IRC is committed to developing innovative, context-specific programs in response to strategic funding opportunities with a range of public and private donors. This work is led at USP by the Resource Acquisition Team, led by the Senior Director of Resource Acquisition and Management (SDRAM), in close collaboration with USP regional and technical units as well as the IRC Revenue Department.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The temporary Associate Director, Business Development (ADBD) will be responsible for monitoring, managing and coordinating USP's response to both public and private funding opportunities from late January to June 1, 2016, with possible extension for an additional 1-2 months. S/he will maintain oversight of the overall USP funding portfolio; communicate regularly with field offices and Technical Units; draft and edit key sections of proposal narratives; and ensure that all proposal deadlines are met in a timely manner.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Track, analyze, and coordinate public and private business development opportunities, with particular attention to major federal opportunities and strategic private proposals above $100,000;
- Analyze specific funding opportunities, participate in project design discussions, and make business development recommendations to the SDRAM;
- As assigned by the SDRAM, team-lead, edit, and/or write key proposal sections for selected strategic opportunities;
- Together with the Resource Acquisition Program Officer, manage the USP Business Development Fund and the USP consultancy roster, supervising the work of approximately ten consultants;
- Serve as the deputy to the SDRAM, representing USP with partners, and in other venues as assigned by the SDRAM;
- Provide qualitative feedback on proposal design to field writers to maximize final submission competitiveness and ensure adherence to donor guidelines;
- Monitor federal and state grant/contract opportunities and inform relevant regional and field office teams of prospective solicitations;
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the SDRAM.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree plus advanced degree in international development, political science, or other related field a plus;
- Minimum 6 years progressive experience in non-profit administration and/or business development, including specific experience in drafting proposals for public and private donors;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including superior writing skills and the ability to effectively manage a variety of relationships;
- Proven management skills and ability to negotiate effectively with donors and partners;
- Solid organizational skills: the ability to work productively and accurately while under pressure in a fast-paced, demanding environment;
- Strong computer skills: facility with MS Word, Excel, and email/internet software.
