This position is housed within the Research, Evaluation, and Learning technical unit at IRC's headquarters in New York City. This position will also work closely with technical and country teams within the Violence, Prevention, & Response and Economic Recovery & Development units
Job Overview/Summary:
Cash assistance is one of the growing interventions for supporting people affected by humanitarian crises, yet there remains critical knowledge gaps around effective targeting strategies to ensure vulnerable groups are safely identified and meaningfully supported. To address this gap, the IRC is undertaking a two-year program to develop an evidence-based toolkit that will enable humanitarian actors to determine the safest, most accessible, and dignified targeting and delivery strategies at the outset of any cash-based program. Two stages of research will support this goal:
- Formative research in two country settings
- Piloting and adapting the new tool using a continuous quality improvement research model approach
The research coordinator will be responsible for successfully carrying out rigorous and ethical research as part of this program. The research coordinator will also be responsible for coordination with the academic research partner for this program and also with project team members from the IRC's key technical units involved in this program
Major Responsibilities:
Leads the implementation of a formative and piloting research project on effective identification, targeting, and risk mitigation for vulnerable groups in multipurpose cash assistance, including
Close coordination with the headquarters technical units (Research, Evaluation & Learning; Violence Prevention & Response, and Economic Recovery & Development), IRC country programs, and academic partner
Leading communication and coordination of study activities
Monitoring adherence to the workplan and study protocols
Supporting the troubleshooting any challenges that may emerge
Ensuring research adheres to IRC research standards
Assist in data collection training, piloting, and implementation as needed
Support data analysis and synthesis efforts
Lead the development of and reporting on monitoring indicators and assist in donor reporting as needed
Develop a research uptake strategy

Position Reports to: Technical Advisor, Research, Evaluation, and Learning
Other key relationships: Academic partner and project team members in Violence Prevention and Response Unit and Economic Recovery and Development
Job Requirements:
Education: Preferred master degree in public health, economics, or related field
Work Experience: 3-6 years of experience working in research on topics related to protection, gender-based violence, humanitarian emergencies or other related topics
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to work across sectors coordinating a study and bring people together from different perspective to work collaboratively
- Knowledge of ethical principles related to sensitive study topics, such as violence
- Demonstrated qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis skills
- Experience in cash-based intervention research and/or implementation
- Desirable: Experience in risk mitigation related to protection, GBV, or child protection.
- Excellent oral and written communication and attention to detail
- French or Arabic proficiency strongly preferred
Working Environment: Standard office work environment, 20% travel.
