Job Overview / Summary (What and Why): The Officer of Planned Gifts is responsible for working closely with planned giving suspects, prospects and donors in the East Coast region to ensure an increased number of legacy gift commitments and a growing and engaged legacy society. Accountable for securing and sustaining planned gifts, the Officer will work directly with prospects and donors as well as Leadership Gifts colleagues to ensure a healthy financial future for our humanitarian work. This may entail the following core tasks: generating new leads; soliciting donors for planned gifts; building strong relationship to steward legacy donors; crafting and executing cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies to communicate with and inspire planned giving donors and prospects; advising colleagues on planned giving collaborations; and reporting the data and results of planned giving efforts.

Reporting to the Director of Planned Gifts, the Officer of Planned Gifts is a critical role to ensuring the successful execution of team revenue goals and metrics. The Officer will collaborate closely with the planned giving team, including a West Coast region counterpart, as well as various Development colleagues. The candidate will be expected to understand the needs and performance of donors and prospects, communicate and collaborate superbly with colleagues, business partners and supporters, use knowledge of various gift planning instruments to assist colleagues and donors, seek to continue to learn about IRC programs, think strategically, offer creative solutions and manage systems to continually grow and improve the IRC's donor relationships and prospecting with high wealth individuals and families. The ideal candidate will work well independently while also thriving in a collegial team environment.

Major Responsibilities:

• Manage a large portfolio of planned giving suspects, prospects and donors in the East Coast region; solicit, cultivate and steward legacy gifts through donor meetings, phone calls, and mailings; create and implement highly personalized donor strategy for planned giving prospects and donors; plan and staff various events for planned giving audiences;
• Craft and execute cultivation and stewardship communications targeted for planned giving donors and prospects;
• Create and solicit charitable gift annuity proposals and agreements for donors;
• Successfully meet annual goals of donor meetings, prospect conversions, and high-touch points with legacy donors and prospects;
• Offer to personally visit or arrange in-person appointments for him/herself, as well as IRC leadership, both senior staff and volunteers, with all appropriate donors and prospects annually. Prepare strategy, briefings and debriefing materials for face-to-face meetings with donors conducted by senior staff or volunteer leadership.
• Report on progress for prospects pipeline and track process using database and monthly reporting on KPIs and other key metrics of team performance;
• Collaborate with colleagues in IRC, particularly direct response, marketing, legal and finance to ensure strong communication and understanding of the team. Liaise with program staff in both U.S. Programs and International Programs (USP and IPD) to better communicate with donors.
• Co-craft and execute with Director and Senior Director strategies to expand portfolio of legacy donors;
• Other duties may include: helping with the management of matured legacy gift revenue; ensuring compliance of annuity pool with state insurance departments; working with team to produce lead generating marketing efforts.

Work with Senior Director of Leadership Gifts on reporting team success for portfolio management and revenue and strategizing based on data-driven decision making. Create correspondence as needed for senior staff and volunteers and assist in briefing and strategizing about donors. Work with finance and legal times to ensure accurate and timely processing of open estates. External: Work with Board members and Overseers on planned giving. Work closely with donors including planned giving prospects, suspects, and existing donors. Liaise with executors of estates to ensure timely revenue to the IRC. Work with State Street bank and various state insurance departments for charitable gift annuity program.

Impact of Work: Responsible for managing a team-wide portfolio of an estimated worth of over $84 million with over 900 PFFs. Also responsible for bringing in a budget amount of $4,800,000 annually from estate gifts.

Job Qualifications: Education: Minimum: Bachelor's degree Preferred: Master's degree or 2-3 years of comparable fundraising experience Work Experience: 3-5 years of non-profit fundraising experience and demonstrated expertise in closing six-and-seven-figure gifts and/or planned gifts. Working Environment: This role requires working remotely full or part time (i.e., telecommuting). Applicants must have a home or alternate workspace they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled hours.
