Job Description
Background
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities, we restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. The IRC leads the way from harm to home.
The IRC aims for people affected by conflict or disaster to be healthier, safer, better educated, economically secure, and more powerful because of the work that we do. To achieve this goal, the IRC is focused on becoming an outcomes-driven and evidence-based organization. By implementing programs that are proven to make an impact we can strengthen program design, program quality and see measurable improvement in the lives of the people we serve. Making evidence-informed decisions about programming and research investments is essential to the achievement of our IRC 2020 Strategy goals and is a top priority for the IRC's leadership.
Starting in 2018, the most common interventions implemented by the IRC will be reviewed and concrete programmatic and research decisions made about them. Where relevant, the outputs of this process will also be used in the development of program guidance for how best to implement the interventions on the ground. The Research Managers will play a key short-term role not only in preparing high-quality research and evidence inputs that will inform decision-making but also in institutionalizing transparent and systematic processes for using evidence within the organization. This position will sit within the IRC's Research, Evaluation, and Learning Unit.
