FULLTIME/PARTIME: Part Time (75%)

BACKGROUND:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is one of the largest humanitarian agencies in the world, providing relief, rehabilitation and post-conflict reconstruction support to victims of oppression and violent conflict. IRC was one of the first humanitarian agencies to respond to the refugee crisis in Greece. IRC Hellas seeks to restore dignity to refugees and to enhance their physical and psychological safety through tailored and targeted response services. At the core of our approach is the IRC’s Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) programming which supports service providers to adhere to minimum standards and principles of good practice in the prevention of and response to gender-based violence and to meet the safety, health, psycho-social, and justice needs of women, girls, and survivors of gender-based violence.

SCOPE OF WORK:
The GBV Specialist – SURVIVOR Project will lead the capacity development of key actors to provide adapted support for GBV survivors and for the prevention of GBV in Greece as part of project consortium for the newly awarded two-year SURVIVOR Project (DG Justice funds). In strong collaboration with consortium partners and IRC colleagues, the GBV Specialist will provide technical support and training to local organisations, municipalities and government institutions to strengthen GBV prevention and response services for refugees and migrants in Greece. This will be done through comprehensive needs assessments, trainings and post-training follow up, technical assistance and close collaboration with project partners.
S/He will also lead the exchange of good practices among different actors in Europe through exchange visits and by leading and maintaining an online Community of Practice (CoP).
While the role is based in Athens, significant travel to other IRC locations will be expected to fully support the capacity building of all regions of programming.

This position indirectly reports to: Technical Adviser, WPE, IRC HQ

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Quality
• Conduct and facilitate effective trainings for local state and NGO actors on relevant GBV topics as appropriate, including community engagement strategies.
• Develop training materials and activities in coordination with IRC Technical Advisor and project partners.
• Support local actors to adopt internationally recognized best practices, proven tools, methodologies on GBV, working collaboratively to ensure their relevance for the Greek context and successful implementation.
• Work closely with project consortium partners to ensure program quality through partners is of the highest technical quality, and in line with IRC standards and internationally recognized best practices and as relevant to the Greek context.
• Work closely with the regional office in order to support European cross-border learning activities through online webinars, regional exchange visits, and the development of a Community of Practice (CoP) on relevant GBV topics.
• Support the exchange of GBV-related resources and tools for European audiences through an interactive online platform.

Partner Relations
• Develop, maintain and actively contribute to effective working relationships with project consortium partners and other actors, promoting a strong team spirit and collaboration.
• Actively identify, build and promote partnerships with INGOs, UN agencies, local and national women’s groups, state institutions and other networks working on GBV, with the objective of facilitating strong coordination and collaboration with the SURVIVOR and other IRC projects.

Grant Management
• Support project adherence to grant work plans, spending plans and monitoring and evaluation plans.
• Write quality reports for project donor as requested by consortium lead.
• Work closely and coordinate with IRC Operations, Finance and Grant departments to ensure compliance with grant requirements.
• Attend consortium meetings and report on relevant deliverables.

Coordination & Representation
• Attend relevant local technical working groups and coordinate project efforts with other organizations addressing GBV in Greece.
• Attend IRC meetings to share information and coordinate efforts internally.

Other
• Other duties as assigned by the Programs Coordinator to enable and develop IRC programs.
• Regularly attend and organize meetings with the WPE Technical Adviser.

Professional Standards
• All IRC staff are required to adhere to THE IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct and the IRC country employment policies.

REQUIREMENTS:

• MA/S or equivalent in social work, psychology, public health or other relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• At least seven years of experience implementing gender-based violence programming and providing gender-based violence training, counseling, and/or support.
• Strong understanding of the Greek context and the European/Greek refugee crisis. .
• Strong training and technical assistance skills and significant experience leading participatory trainings, coaching, capacity building and mentoring of professionals or local partners.
• Good computer skills in programs such as: MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
• Personal qualities: Team player, flexible, diplomatic, network-builder, strong negotiation skills, gender and cultural sensitivity and able to handle pressure well.
• Fluency in English; fluency in Greek is highly desirable.
• Experience in EU funded projects and consortiums are desirable assets.

WORK ENVIRNOMENT:

Travel and other requirements: office hours TBC by the Line Supervisor; to and from sites of program implementation as needed.
