Job Description Job Overview/Summary Under the supervision of the Maternal and Child Health Coordinator, the overall responsibilities of the position will require the coordination and facilitation of a research grant identifying the most effective combination of interventions to increase adolescent use of sexual and reproductive health (ASRH) services.

This role will supervise the implementation of two interventions across three health facilities: The first health facility will receive a basic package of interventions designed to increase adolescent use of SRH services, called the "Core ASRH Package". The second health facility will receive the "Engage, Empower and Act for Adolescent Health Package" which includes the Core ASRH Package plus Participatory Action Research (PAR) with adolescents and key influencers. The third health facility will serve as the control and receive no additional interventions.

This position will also work closely with the IRC Health team to design, implement and support community engagement strategies aimed at improving health outcomes for women and girls.

Major Responsibilities

  • Core ASRH package technical Oversight: Provide technical oversight on the implementation of the Core ASRH package across two facilities and ensure that activities are implemented according to the work plan and approved research protocol.
  • PAR Technical oversight: Provide technical oversight on Participatory Action Research (PAR) activities implemented in one facility and community and ensure that activities are implemented according to the work plan and approved research protocol.
  • Logistical Support and Organization: Work with IRC supply chain and procurement staff as well as local stakeholders to plan, organize and facilitate routine meetings and workshops.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Ensure local stakeholders at the health facility, community and government levels are kept informed on the PAR progress and findings.
  • Documentation and Research: Serve as focal point for IRC Technical Unit for analysis and publication of PAR results. Serve as lead writer on reports and final technical review paper.
  • Community engagement activities: In coordination with IRC health team, design, implement and support a multi-pronged community engagement strategy. Develop, test and revise information, education, and communication (IEC) materials aimed at improving health outcomes for women and girls and increasing engagement around reproductive health services.
  • Supervision to the Research officer: Provide technical supervision, in collaboration with the Health and Nutrition M&E Manager, to the Research Officer to ensure the accurate collection and compilation of data.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • College/university qualification in the social sciences, public health or a related discipline,
  • Three to five years progressive experience in participatory community development, behavior change communication, and/or participatory action research,
  • Experience conducting qualitative research preferred,
  • Strong understanding of adolescent sexual, reproductive, and child health issues,
  • Demonstrable experience as a strong facilitator capable of creating a participatory environment,
  • Experience designing and facilitating training and capacity-building exercises,
  • Flexible work attitude; effective planning and organizing skills,
  • Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English,
  • Good computer skills: facility with MS Word, Excel, and email/internet software.
