Overview: IBTCI is seeking a Public Affairs and External Communications Specialist to provide public affairs services and content writing for an anticipated support services contract for the Africa Center for Strategic Studies (ACSS) under the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DCSA). This position is contingent upon award.

Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:

· Develop and produce written, visual and graphic materials (e.g., news releases media advisories, fact sheets, brochures, online broadcasts, videos, graphics, etc.) for ACSS website, multimedia and print, official information products and social media, adhering to the highest journalistic and professional standards to accurately explain the work of the Africa Center.

· Incorporate public outreach and media access into programs.

· Observe and write reports on ACSS programs and events.

· Schedule and monitor news media interviews and other outreach activities involving ACSS.

· Coordinate public affairs products and coverage with partner organizations.

· Access commercial photo services for additional graphic arts or photography requirements.

· Other duties as assigned.

RequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Proven ability to adhere to tight deadlines.

· Strict attention to detail.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability and willingness to work with all levels of the organization.

Minimum Requirements:

· Experience with deadline-driven journalism or public affairs content production, such as newspaper, television, radio and website writing/editing as well as visual/multimedia content required.

· Demonstrated ability to meet content-production deadlines.

· Demonstrated knowledge of African issues and U.S. foreign policy issues related to Africa.

· Oral and written fluency in English required. Fluency in French and/or Portuguese preferred.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations or related field required. 5+ years of relevant professional experience may be substituted for education.

Working Environment: Work is typically performed in an office environment.

Physical Requirements: This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Travel: International travel may be required.

Work Authorization: Candidate must be authorized to work in the U.S.A.
