Our European headquarters, IRC-UK, were established in London in 1997 to support the organization’s global activities and particularly to diversify its donor base and be able to better advocate with European policy-makers on behalf of the people we serve. Since its establishment IRC-UK has grown rapidly and is now acknowledged for its high quality project management, technical expertise in governance and rights and economic recovery, and innovative thinking on early recovery and gender based violence. The IRC also has offices in Berlin, Brussels and Geneva.

IRC-UK comprises approximately 110 staff across five departments.

​**UK Private Fundraising Team**

The IRC has invested significantly in the UK fundraising team which has increased its capacity considerably over the past three years. There are ambitious plans to increase this even further as part of an exciting global revenue generation strategy in development. This is therefore an exciting time to join an award-winning, fast paced, dynamic team with ambitious but achievable targets

This role sits in the UK Private Fundraising Team, working alongside a Digital Fundraising Team consisting of four Digital Fundraisers (mass market).

The Purpose of the Role

The Digital Fundraising Executive – Retention will report to the Head of Digital Fundraising and form part of a small team of five mass marketing fundraisers. This role will focus on supporter cultivation and retention upgrade in the UK market.

As the post holder will focus on cultivating, retaining, upgrading new donors, the post holder will play a key role in helping the IRC achieve its objectives to increase supporter life time value in the UK.

Scope and Authority

Authority:

The post holder has authority to make implementation decisions regarding the optimisation the UK digital cultivation, retention and upgrade programme to maximise financial return in the short and long term.

Responsibility for Resources:

This position has no line management responsibility

Key Accountabilities

Producing Results (70%)

  • Work closely with the Head of Digital Fundraising and global marketing team to implement UK Digital Fundraising donor retention and upgrade strategies
  • Manage and implement email marketing support journeys to cultivate, reengage and upgrade supporters to enhance their life-time value
  • Work collaboratively to develop and implement emergency and non-emergency fundraising campaigns to existing supporters
  • Ensure supporters receive an excellent user experience, working collaboratively with the UK Digital Fundraising team, global marketing team and digital agencies to develop seamless supporter journeys
  • Work with agencies and internal design teams to create marketing assets that meet campaign needs, goals and network specifications
  • Proactively seek to promote challenge and community events as cross sell to supporters.
  • Act as lead in supporter care communications via telephone and email, utilising existing supporter care knowledge base and procedures.

Reporting and Optimisation (20%)

  • Test and refine engagement tactics to maximize life-time value
  • Help ensure that KPIs are measured and regularly reviewed to enhance performance
  • In collaboration with the UK Strategic Operations Team and Global Marketing teams, provide regular real-time status reports on retention programme performance and suggest ways to maximize returns

Quality (5%)

  • Work with the global marketing and UK comms to ensure retention programme is on brand and of the highest quality
  • Be a key member of the UK Digital Fundraising Team demonstrating a commitment, integrity and accountability to the “IRC Way” – IRC Global Standards for Professional Conduct

Supporting change (5%)

  • Work collaboratively with UK Digital Fundraising Team to embed digital retention best practice with European and global digital fundraising strategies to maximize sustainable net income
  • Work collaboratively with Digital and Communications colleagues in the UK and globally to maximize fundraising opportunities and financial returns
  • Support the Head of Digital Fundraising to ensure fundraising practices are compliant with fundraising and other relevant regulatory standards
  • Monitor developments and trends in digital fundraising
  • Contribute to overall strategic and financial planning as required
  • Participate in Fundraising team meetings and events
  • Carry out other duties as required to maximize IRC-UK’s digital fundraising income.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications:

Essential

  • Understanding of mass market donor retention programmes
  • Proven ability using analytics to inform and influence decision-making
  • Excellent IT skills including digital marketing tools, specifically IBM Campaign Automation/Silverpop (or equivalent email marketing software) and Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage a complex, varied workload
  • Able to plan and prioritise tasks
  • Excellent copywriting skills
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, to deal effectively, efficiently and appropriately with internal and external audiences
  • Good financial and numeracy skills
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Able to establish and build relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels and from a variety of backgrounds, both within IRC and externally
  • Able to understand and demonstrate commitment to IRC’s Equal Opportunities Policy and to ensure all activities are consistent with Equal Opportunities.

Desirable

  • Understanding of fundraising practices, codes of conduct and legislation

Experience:

Essential

  • Experience in a digital fundraising/marketing role
  • Experience of working collaboratively with members of a fundraising team and across departments
  • A demonstrable track record of supporting the development of digital programmes to cultivate, retain and upgrade donors/customers

Desirable:

  • Experience using with SalesForce or equivalent CRM
  • Experience of working with agencies
  • Experience of working in the charity sector
  • Experience of working in a complex, global organization
