The Child Enrichment Specialist is responsible for the direct service component of IRC‘s Youth Education Program in the Phoenix office. This individual will provide child supervision, implement appropriate early childhood education curriculum, and develop a family literacy program to support refugee parents and their children from toddler through elementary age. Primary programs supported by the Child Enrichment Specialist include Child Watch, parenting classes, and family literacy. S/he will also be responsible for data collection, reporting, and program development. The Child Enrichment Specialist will report to the Education and Learning Manager.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary source of supervision for children ages 1-12 while parents attend on-site classes and appointments.
  • Engage, establish trust, and collaborate effectively with culturally diverse children and their families.
  • Professionally engage and deliver age-appropriate curriculum using evidence-based methods.
  • Develop appropriate family enrichment classes and activities which support Family Literacy, healthy parent-child interaction, appropriate social behaviors, and successful progression within schools.
  • Interact with participants in ways which promote respect, encourage independence, and engage the family units.
  • Complete enrollments and orientations for parents utilizing in-house Child Watch services.
  • Collect, track, and report on participant enrollment, attendance, and impact.
  • Train and support volunteers and interns as required and appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in early childhood or education preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with young children, youth, and their families.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Strong intercultural communication skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from other cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); competent in Excel for tracking and inputting data.
  • Proficient in English with bilingual proficiency in a second language spoken by the client base strongly preferred.
  • Current driver’s license, access to reliable transportation and valid insurance.
  • Willingness and ability to drive a 15 passenger van.
  • Must have or be eligible to receive a fingerprint clearance card.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified.

Working Environment*:*

  • Standard office work environment combined w/standard classroom setting and some travel throughout service delivery area to include home visits.
