The Volunteer and Donations Specialist will recruit volunteers and interns and design effective volunteer opportunities to support core IRC programming while maintaining donations through procurement, management, delivery and attainment of 'in-kind' contributions from our community of supporters. The Volunteer and Donations Specialist will also direct the HOME program which provides funding, in-kind donations, and volunteer support to newly arrived refugee families. In addition to volunteer and donations coordination, this role will serve as main contact person to capitalize external interest in IRC Oakland or Sacramento.
This position can be based in either Oakland or Sacramento, California.
Major Responsibilities:
Recruitment:
- Collaborate with staff to craft and maintain accurate, up-to-date descriptions for all volunteer/internship opportunities.
- Recruit, screen, orient, train and match individuals through regular Informational Sessions and developing university contacts; with appropriate service opportunities in line with IRC national volunteer guidelines.
- Community Engagement:
- Pursue, track, and report in-kind contributions.
- Conduct outreach to community groups and faith-based organizations to procure HOME team support.
- Represent the IRC at volunteer and career fairs, fundraising events, and other community outreach opportunities.
- Organize fundraisers and community outreach events to increase interest and awareness of the IRC.
- Assist NorCal Development Manager in organizing and executing corporate engagement events.
- Manage social media for NorCal.
- Oversee storage of in-kind on and off-site.
Volunteer Management:
- Present on-boarding orientations and assist with administrative needs for all new recruits.
- Responsible for developing and running effective programs for volunteer support of core IRC programs by collaborating with direct service staff and offering logistical support in support of IRC program objectives.
- Provide ongoing support to volunteers/interns throughout their service period.
- Maintain the volunteer section on the IRC in Oakland or Sacramento website and run the Salesforce volunteer database.
- Record and report all volunteer time and keep accurate, appropriately documented electronic and paper records of service time.
- Maintain individual files on all volunteer and intern staff, ensuring required documentation is complete, accurate and on file.
- Recognize volunteers and their service through events and communications.
Staff Support:
- Work in tandem with the Program Managers to identify needs and develop intern and volunteer recruitment plans to support achievement of program goals. This includes Reception and Placement, Economic Empowerment, Immigration, Intensive Case Management, Anti-Trafficking, and New Roots Programs.
- Train staff to work effectively as volunteer managers and interact cooperatively with volunteers.
- Participate in IRC Communities of Practice and other networking/learning opportunities in the network.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree required. Preferably with an emphasis in communication, non-profit management, human resources, international development or and relevant field of study.
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated success in management, non-profit management, outreach and engagement, communications, human resources, etc.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills and ability to learn new computer applications rapidly.
- Experience recruiting and training interpreters a plus.
- Deep understanding of program management and human resource management principles and experience managing diverse teams.
- Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
- Flexible and able to handle pressure well.
- Experience developing and providing orientations and trainings.
- Strong organizational skills in a complex, multi-tasking environment and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with current and prospective donors and volunteers, partner agencies, multi-cultural clients and colleagues on all levels.
