The Grants Manager position is central to the International Rescue Committee in Salt Lake City (IRC SLC) pursuing and sustaining diverse and robust funding for a variety of IRC SLC programs through prospecting of new funders, tracking of annual applications, and grant proposal development in collaboration with IRC SLC Program Managers and Development Program staff. The Grants Manager also contributes to strategic planning and developing organizational systems and compliance monitoring tools for IRC SLC, including gathering and organizing information on IRC SLC programs in need of funding, soliciting and compiling new project ideas and supporting Program Managers with grants management.

Essential Job Functions

Proposal Development

  • Work with IRC SLC Executive Director, Deputy Director, Development Manager, and Program Managers to identify sources of funding, including deepening relationships with existing funders as well as identifying diverse new funding opportunities spanning private, corporate philanthropic, local, state, and federal funds appropriate for IRC SLC programs.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers and IRC Headquarters grants management staff to develop competitive proposals for diverse funders and ensure that proposals are compiled, vetted, approved, and submitted in a timely fashion.
  • Assist IRC SLC Executive Director, Deputy Director, and Development Manager in developing and maintaining relationships with key funders and donors as appropriate.

Capacity Building and Internal Compliance

  • Continue strengthening and improving systems for pre-award and post-award phases of the grant life cycle, including systems that support proposal development, project implementation, and grant monitoring, administration, reporting, and renewal for IRC SLC funding streams.
  • Provide ongoing training and support to appropriate staff, including Program Managers and the Finance and Development teams, so they can effectively use these systems for development and award management.
  • Provide both formal and informal training and technical assistance to Program Managers and other key program staff as they contribute to strategic funding plans, fundraising and proposal development efforts, and award management.
  • Assist Development Program and Deputy Director in creating and implementing reporting templates and other tools for timely and organized management of grants.
  • Participate in IRC SLC Leadership Team and contribute to ongoing office-wide strategic action planning to help guide program development, evaluation, and data analysis.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Humanities, Social or Behavioral Sciences or Social Work. Emphasis on education in Community Development, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years related non-profit or social service sector work experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of fundraising and non-profit management.
  • Strong organizational skills including: multi-tasking, prioritizing, planning, and effective time management.
  • Proven track record with fundraising and grants management and administration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience providing formal and informal training, editing, and giving and receiving written and verbal feedback.
  • Motivated, flexible and able to work independently.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Able to effectively communicate with limited-English speakers.
  • Demonstrated multi-cultural experience.
  • Valid driver’s license, active insurance policy and access to reliable transportation.
