The Asylum-Seekers & Families (ASF) Shelter Supervisor will oversee and coordinate IRC’s daily shelter activities for asylum seeking families and individuals in Arizona. They will remain in close communication with IRC staff and volunteers in both Phoenix and Tucson and with other involved entities to ensure strong collaboration and coordination and to minimize duplication and overlap. They will stay fully informed of all developments related to asylum seeker patterns across the state and represent IRC along with the Asylum-Seekers &Families Coordinator in interagency discussions and efforts.
Major Responsibilities:
- Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the daily tasks associated with managing and coordinating all aspects of the shelter.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and stable shelter for asylum-seeking families to receive short- term humanitarian assistance, travel assistance and vital information.
- Provide a consistent space for ICE to drop off asylum seeking families by allowing for community groups to come together and provide services in one location.
- Stay informed on immigration and asylum issues nationally and in the State of Arizona.
- Maintain and develop key partnerships with community organizations, service providers, government entities, and faith-based groups.
- Along with the ASF Coordinator, act as a point of contact for all volunteer and donation requests for and from external partners.
- Provide trainings for IRC shelter volunteers and for external partners or community organizations as needed.
- Coordinate in-kind donation drives with IRC staff and volunteer groups.
- Maintain and report program data to appropriate funding sources.
- Develop a comprehensive list of resources to support the complex needs of asylum seekers.
- Ensure intakes, legal orientations, referrals for destinations are completed at the shelter.
- Immediately address any potential risk or hazardous conditions.
- Participate in on-going staff trainings and meetings as required.
- Supervise interns and volunteers as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree, ideally in a social work, immigration or international related field of study or 7 years of relevant experience, preferably with a nonprofit or social service organization. Shelter/residential experience preferred.
- At least two years of experience in program management and at least one year of experience in staff/volunteer supervision.
- Demonstrated understanding of fiscal management and reporting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with limited-English speakers in a multi-cultural environment.
- Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills and experience working in a multi-cultural, fast-paced, rapidly changing working environment.
- Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a key team member.
- Advanced computer skills including word processing, database systems, desktop publishing, and PowerPoint. Strong command of excel and budget management preferred.
- Access to reliable transportation for regular travel throughout the service delivery area.
- Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English required.
- Ability to work during non-traditional hours such as evenings and weekends as needed; on call duties will include responding to crisis situations 24 hours a day.
Working Environment:
- Focus of work will be at the shelter with limited traditional office environment, with travel between Phoenix and Tucson offices and throughout the service delivery area.
