Job Title: Staff Care Specialist for Athens and Lesvos

Department: Human Resources (HR)

Location: Athens, Greece with frequent travel to other field sites.

Duration: 6 months

Starting Date: ASAP

Job Summary

Job Overview/Summary: Under the direction of the HR Coordinator, provide leadership in the development & delivery of staff care services in the area of stress & trauma management (STM) to IRC staff responding directly and indirectly to the refugee’s crisis in Athens and Lesvos, and to develop supporting guidelines to maximize a supportive working environment in the field offices and all sites. Work closely with IRC Greece –

Major Responsibilities:

Ø Develop supportive plans of action for staff care as part of the overall response strategy, ensuring a comprehensive approach to support the well-being of staff and foster a positive working environment. Recommendations in this plan should address actionable activities and advice to support the morale and the social, physical, and psychological well-being of staff.

Ø Conduct assessments for staff care needs in all operational sites and field offices

Ø Assist in the capacity building of all staff, but especially managers/coordinators to recognize the signs and symptoms of stress within the team, in order to better support their needs and to provide peer support between team members.

Ø Provide individual support for staff care as needed and conduct peer support interventions when indicated.

Ø Work to actively engage in building trust with staff at all levels and in all roles.

Ø Develop, gather and distribute Stress and Trauma Management (STM) educational reading and materials to all staff on a regular basis.

Ø Conduct formal and informal STM trainings and ensure structures are in place to support stress management activities and structures.

Ø Utilize various methods to understand the support needs, concerns, and stress levels of staff, and advise management through regular consultation on how to better meet the needs of staff to minimize any issues.

Ø Provide regular communications to all staff regarding information and research findings related to staff care in similar environments.

Ø Develop & coordinate staff care services with other local agencies and professional organizations.

Ø Stay up to date on current STM research & practices taking into consideration both local and international perspectives & practices.

Ø Provide management with monthly and/or quarterly information related to numbers and usage of individual and group services/sessions, including general themes emerging from these activities, and suggestions on how to create a more supportive work environment and how to better support other issues related to staff care.

Job Requirements:

Education:

Graduate degree/post bachelor’s diploma in psychosocial health, public health, health, psychology (clinical), or a related degree. Experience in Human Resources or organizational psychology is a plus.

Work Experience:

  • At least 3 years work experience in an area such as emergency or humanitarian relief, community development in difficult circumstances, trauma, human resources, occupational mental health or psychosocial support, preferably within Greece/Europe or another humanitarian context.
  • Preference will be given to persons who have proven experience in delivering STM or psychosocial services which include working with people in multi-cultural and multi-lingual environments.
  • Additional preference given to persons who have formal training or working knowledge in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM).
  • Ability to work in rapidly changing and fast-moving contexts in a positive and creative manner.
  • Demonstrated consultative leadership style that will promote social support, flexibility & team cohesion.

Language Skills: Should have fluent spoken and written English and Greek. Fluency in Arabic or Farsi/Dari would be a plus.

Working Environment: The position will be based in Thessaloniki and require regular travel to all IRC Northern Greece sub offices and operational environments.
