IRC Background:
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. Domestically, our offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.
Job Overview:
With decades of experience in resettlement programming, the IRC has developed a significant number of resources utilized by resettlement staff and stakeholders in refugee resettlement and integration. These resources include manuals, toolkits, learning modules, PowerPoints, fact sheets, etc., and cover topics from volunteer management, managing in kind contributions, case management, job readiness training, working with Interpreters, community consultations, casework for vulnerable populations, cultural orientation, etc. With an increased focus on new countries resettling refugees and the IRC's expansion in Europe, there is a need for the IRC to formalize the resources it has to enable sharing of the IRC's rich experience in resettling and integrating refugees into their new communities.
Using existing IRC resources on resettlement and integration topics, it is expected that the Resettlement Special Projects Officer will produce at least five to seven high quality, branded toolkits, which should be organized on an online platform library, for use internally by IRC staff and externally with international audiences.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1 Collect and review all relevant existing IRC materials, triaging and selecting in order to propose topics and structure for five to seven toolkits. This process should take into account the following:
1 Reflecting the best of our resources (our highest quality, most tried and tested, most adaptable to an international audience) 2 Prioritizing materials where the IRC will be adding value, considering what other material already publically available through other sources 3 Consider inputs from European stakeholders (potentially to include a two week visit to Europe to consult with IRC regional team members as well as key partner organizations) 4 Develop the toolkits, using and building on the IRC's existing materials, adapting all of the content for an international audience (where possible, developing or including content specific for a European audience) 5 Oversee the development of an organized, searchable online resource library for the toolkits. The online platform should be coordinated /cross-referenced with other IRC online content (e.g. http://shls.rescue.org , http://healingclassrooms.org/ , https://coresourceexchange.org/ ) as well as the IRC's website https://www.rescue.org/
2 Finalize budget for duration of project. 3 Actively engage with a wide range of IRC staff and oversee the work of an IRC intern based in Europe. 4 Submit weekly email update of activities completed highlighting major progress and challenges and assistance required by HQ. 5 Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engages as a member of the team 6 Comply with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency
