Background/IRC Summary:
IRC's Global Partnerships and Philanthropy (GPP) department is responsible for the global delivery of the International Rescue Committee's financial resources (currently circa USD750m per annum), and plays an important strategic role in the creation of its brand, awareness and support for its advocacy goals. The IRC's strategy centers on its ambition to continue to improve the scale and effectiveness of IRC programs worldwide with evidence of what works best to impact people's lives in conflict and fragile settings. GPP comprises colleagues and teams delivering government funding, marketing, account management, leadership gifts, board liaison, corporate partnerships and communications to support this work. These colleagues are primarily located in the USA & UK - but IRC plans to significantly expand its global fundraising footprint. Other colleagues within IRC are also engaged with private and government funding - in particular within Europe, USP and field - and we need to work in close integrated collaboration to ensure best use of resources and highest impact for IRC.
GPP has begun delivering a new radical and ambitious Private Sector strategy that will enhance IRC's ability to 'punch above its weight' in income and awareness. As part of this strategy, IRC has identified a huge opportunity to increase the effectiveness of emergency fundraising, and ultimately increase the amount IRC raises from emergencies.
Job Overview/Summary:
The Associate Director, Emergency Fundraising will work in close active partnership with the Director, Global Opportunities, the Vice President, Strategic Growth, the broader GPP team, the Communication colleagues and all IRC global offices. S/he will be responsible for leading the co-ordination of emergency fundraising before, during and after emergencies.
S/he will be the operational lead of emergency fundraising - ensuring that IRC internally builds a process and culture which ensures GPP, our global fundraising and communication colleagues and our partners are best placed to succeed in any emergency.
In case of an emergency, s/he will provide key support to ensure the proper implementation of the emergency fundraising process in the most rapid and efficient way possible. S/he will be accountable for the overall fundraising success of the emergency. To that purpose, s/he has a clear understanding of the marketing, development, communication, legal, finance and programs requirements for successful emergency fundraising.
Major Responsibilities:
1 Coordinate emergency fundraising efforts between all stakeholders during emergency. This includes organizing and leading cross-functional meetings, making sure decisions are taken in a timely manner, and following up on critical actions 2 Provide support to stakeholders, and actively engage with them to build their capacity and preparedness for emergency fundraising and provide awareness on how it fits into their overall fundraising strategy 3 Develop and improve continuously the emergency fundraising process 4 Lead the cross functional strategic project "emergency fundraising" which aims to identify improvement opportunities in the current protocol, decide and prioritize the action plans 5 Develop and manage all relevant templates, documents and systems required to coordinate emergency fundraising efforts 6 Identify new channels and fundraising opportunities to be tested and deployed 7 Share and compare best practices in emergency fundraising 8 Develop and manage all relevant KPIs required to measure the IRC emergency fundraising efficiency 9 Support and work in close supportive partnership with IRC global offices to make sure their emergency fundraising efforts are coordinated with the U.S. 10 Monitor success in emergency fundraising efforts 11 Together with IRC fundraising stakeholders globally, share best practice and seek opportunities to raise stakeholders' capacity in emergency fundraising

Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's Degree.
Work Experience:
- Proven track record of successful delivery in an emergency fundraising role within a complex organization, and a clear and demonstrable understanding of the humanitarian sector
- Extensive fundraising experience across a broad channel mix, specifically within individual giving, previous experience working across all marketing disciplines, with a clear and understanding of the role of digital fundraising during emergencies
- Experience working in a central support function servicing multiple stakeholder/markets in knowledge sharing and campaign support
- Experience in working with partners across multiple functions including marketing, development and communication
- Experience in organizational problem solving, high performance management in complex but low resource organizations
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
- Proven track record in successful emergency fundraising management
- Excellent analytical, conceptual and communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with proven experience in relationship management with stakeholders
- The ability to influence others, to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures and to act with credibility, tact and diplomacy
- Entrepreneurial with the ability to rapidly adapt to changing circumstances, while maintaining focus on the end goal
- Self-confident and enthusiastic team player who can secure support from a diverse project team to achieve agreed upon goals
- Ability to work across multiple departments and track actions agreed to and taken
- Ability to work on own initiative without close supervision
- Strong time management skills with an ability to anticipate requirements, problems and obstacles across a large and diverse workload in a fast paced environment, working on short and long-term objectives and tight deadlines
- A full appreciation of the value of co-operation, internationally and within a team environment
- Ability to think creatively and strategically
- Fluency in Microsoft office tools
