The IRC’s Center for Financial Opportunity (CFO) helps newly arrived refugees and other low-income individuals reach self-sufficiency by finding entry-level employment and progress to living wage jobs, learn basic financial management skills and build assets, and start small businesses. The Center then helps families move sustainably out of poverty by offering high-quality, culturally and linguistically accessible, integrated economic empowerment services.
Job Overview:
The Employment Specialist is responsible for managing the provision of services to assist newly arrived refugee clients to attain self sufficiency through employment. Specifically, the Employment Specialist ensures services that include employment preparation, placement, career enhancement services and follow-up services.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide intake, assessment, and pre-employment/job readiness orientation to clients eligible for employment services;
- Develop comprehensive employment plans for each employable adult;
- Provide both group and one-on-one intense job readiness orientations that provide clients with the basic skills required to enhance their employability;
- Develop and cultivate long term relationships with area employers in order to identify appropriate employment opportunities for clients;
- Determine specific employment opportunities appropriate to clients and assist clients in accessing these opportunities by guiding them through the hiring process;
- Monitor job performance, wage level, and employer/employee satisfaction;
- Assist clients and employers as necessary with post placement issues and continuing employment needs;
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance to all reporting requirements, and entry into Efforts-to-Outcome Database (ETO);
- Participate in all program meetings, weekly employment meeting, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the team;
- Comply with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency;
- Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in a related field; or mix of equivalent years of education and related work experience;
- Two years of related professional work experience ideal (in addition to the above);
- Demonstrated experience with the U.S. job search process and the ability to effectively coach clients through the nuanced process of securing employment;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Proven success achieving goals and working effectively with all levels of staff in a multicultural environment;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook);
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with current insurance, and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area;
- Fluency in English and Farsi (spoken and written) required; Urdu & Pashto a plus.
Working Environment*:*
- Standard, professional office environment combined with travel in and around the service delivery area;
- Regular travel to off-site locations is required;
- Offices hours are scheduled as Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm.
