Greece: Roving Psychologist (National contract - EU citizens only)

JOB SUMMARY:

Brief description of the position’s role within the Project(s):

The Psychologist will manage the provision of targeted mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) to refugee populations in target locations. Special focus will be given to particularly vulnerable groups, including women and children, survivors of violence, and youth displaced from regular educational activities. MHPSS services will be specific to the needs of girls, boys, women, and men, and will be informed by an understanding of cultural norms around mental health, gender roles, violence against women and girls, and the neglect, exploitation and abuse of children and other vulnerable refugee groups

Who this position reports to The position will report to the Senior MHPSS Officer and will receive additional technical support from the Senior Protection Coordinator and the Mental Health Technical Advisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Conduct/participate in Mental Health, and Psychosocial needs assessment among the affected populations. This will include assessments consistent with IASC guidelines and Mental Health Psychosocial WHO assessment toolkit, at different stages of program planning and implementation.

· Establish a safe space to conduct private and confidential conversations acceptable to those on the site and safely accessible by women and children.

· Respond to the clients identified needs by conducting specific psychosocial individual level interventions/ activities (adapted and appropriate to each one’s specific needs and capacities) and lead group counselling sessions.

· Join interagency coordination mechanisms for the provision of mental health and psychosocial support and share relevant information.

· Collaboratively set up, monitor and develop community based Psychosocial (PSS) activities with the Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) Manager, Protection (CP) Manager, and the Senior MHPSS Officer.

· Collaboratively work with the WPE and CP staff to design and implement ideas for psychosocial programs with youth, women, children in target sites (SHLS, Women’s Safe Spaces, etc.).

· Refer patients to other health professionals whenever necessary.

· Promote community-based PSS initiatives specific to the needs of girls, boys, women, and men , such as group and community-oriented discussions, provide psychoeducation to the camp population on mental health issues and on the ways how to deal with possible mental health and psychosocial concerns.

· Conduct awareness raising campaigns and distribute IEC material on common stress reactions, psychosocial well-being, and positive coping mechanisms collaboratively with the refugee population and other partners.

· Provide psychoeducation/family counseling sessions to family members of clients when needed.

· Hold focus group discussions and key informant interviews with the refugee population in each site in order to assess need and develop projects.

· Referral Mapping: Work with local partners and the Senior MHPSS Officer to map MHPSS service providers and other services relevant to conflict-affected populations in target region. Create document listing relevant services and resources. Facilitate dissemination of information about existing services and supports to strengthen referral networks, both through written output and development of referral workshops for regional service providers.

· Answer to the identified needs, by providing direct psychosocial support and refer internally and externally as needed, respecting confidentiality and the rights of the clients providing direct psychosocial support if necessary.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION

· Completes intake assessments, evaluations, development of care plans, treatment recommendations, reviews, and other documentation as necessary.

· Developing and identifying necessary measuring tools to assess success in accordance to indicators of program.

· Implementing and coordinating measurement tools in the field.

QUALIFICATIONS: (Training/education/experience/physical demands required; provide 6-8 requirements)

· The qualified candidate must be psychologist with extensive psychosocial programming experience with 5 + years’ experience in setting up or implementing psychosocial programs at national and international levels.

· In depth knowledge of psychosocial programming in the humanitarian context and in depth understanding of the consequences of violence and displacement.

· Experience implementing Women Friendly Spaces, Child Friendly Spaces, Case Management, Psychosocial programming for people affected by disaster.

· Familiarity with IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support In Emergency Settings.

· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments.

· Honest, hardworking and a self-motivated person able to work in a dynamic environment.

· Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources.

· An excellent command of verbal and written English.

· Arabic Language is great advantage.
