JOB SUMMARY:
Brief description of the position’s role within the Project(s):
The Women’s Protection and Empowerment/Gender Based Violence (WPE/GBV) Prevention Officer will oversee prevention and risk reduction activities, including safety audits, risk identification, and efforts engaging community and site leadership in risk reduction.
Position objectives:
· To identify risks to women and girls in the specific emergency context, through regular safety audits and situational analysis.
· To oversee the advocacy for and implementation to address those risks, both those activities led by WPE and those carried out in collaboration with other sectors and actors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Quality
· Reinforce adherence to the GBV guiding principles throughout all WPE activities.
· Supervise community mobilizers for awareness raising activities and/or promotion of women’s safe space activities
Grant Planning & Implementation
· Prepare and maintain/update detailed work plan(s) that support and achieve activities.
- Carry out regular safety audits and community consultations to identify risks faced by women and girls.
- Analyze and share results of regular safety audits and community consultations, identifying trends and changes in the context important for consideration in risk reduction activities.
- Provide direct support and ongoing mentoring to IRC WPE/GBV staff and volunteers in a position to make community-based observations and support ongoing assessment and risk identification activities.
- Train and support other IRC sectors in risk reduction and the identification of concrete actions they can take to increase women and girls’ participation, and mitigate risks they face in the community.
Grant Monitoring & Reporting
· Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and three-month work plans in a timely manner, and incorporate supervisor feedback as requested.
· Compile monthly activity reports for submission.
· Ensure that all relevant financial documentation is accurately completed and submitted, as required by IRC policies.
Coordination & Representation
· Identify concerns related to camp/community layout, safety and security, water and sanitation access, etc., and develop strategies for constructively sharing these concerns with other actors.
· Support other stakeholders, including government actors, other humanitarian actors, and communities/leaders in identifying strategies that reduce risks faced by women and girls.
Other
· Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with IRC Operational policies.
· Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs.
Professional Standards
· All IRC staff are required to adhere to THE IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct and the IRC country employment policies.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor of Arts or Science in Social Science, Public Health, Humanities or other related field, desirable
· Clear understanding of gender, human rights, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls
· Experience facilitating trainings and workshops and mentoring others
· Positive and professional attitude, including ability to lead and work well in a team setting
· Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
· Computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel
· Fluency in English and/or Arabic or Farsi preferred
