Responsibilities
The Emergency Preparedness Intern - Health will be involved in a range of projects. Specific projects will cover a wide range of areas including but not limited to the following:
Projects
- Write/edit/compile/research country health profiles for IRC countries
Assist in the research and development of health-related emergency preparedness and response tools including needs assessments, sector toolkits, monitoring tools, etc.
Other duties related to emergency preparedness and health as assigned.
Workshops/Training
Assist in coordination of Emergency Preparedness Planning (EPP) and Country Emergency Team (CET) workshops with country programs, for example:
- Prepare reports on country context/background information
- Preparation of presentations and materials for various health technical workshops
- Arranging travel, visas, and other logistics for health officer
- Research and Report Writing
- Regularly update Emergency Portal with emergency health preparedness reports and resources
- Research and gather information about emergency health response processes and protocols within other INGOs
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the designated period, the intern will be able to:
1 Write regional/country research reports regarding current and prospective health emergencies and contexts. 2 Understand theories of adult learning as they relate to capacity development within emergencies/INGOs. 3 Develop comprehensive and creative presentations for training and workshops in emergency health preparedness. 4 Understand new technologies and software related to internal and external organizational communication 5 Understand issues around organizational capacity in emergencies
Key Relationships
The Intern will work closely with the EPRU senior leadership, and report directly to the Emergency Health Officer. They may also work collaboratively with the Emergency Unit Deployment Coordinator on staffing and other logistical issues, and with other Emergency Unit interns. The Intern will also work closely with IRC's country program managers and regional teams as necessary. Depending on the assignment, she/he may also work closely with other Emergency Unit staff and other IRC departments including IT, Finance, Procurement and Human Resources.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled master's degree student in internationally focused health academic program (MPH preferred)
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong writing skills (English)
- Ability to work independently and without close supervision
- HTML experience, intermediate coding experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work closely with range of stakeholders.
- Creative thinker, effective communicator and active problem solver.
- French language skills an advantage (not required)
